This house was built in 1906.  It was originally the Mowrey House, and was built on three city lots on the corner of Ferrell and Center Streets in Ashland.  It remained in the Mowrey family for many years.  County records show only three transfers of the property.  One in 1987, one in 1997 and one in 2001.

There has always been an effort to retain the original character of the home while updating where necessary to make it functional in today's world.  The home sits in the Center Street Historical District and has been part of many celebrations of the unique historic identity of the area.

To find this home from I-71, take the Ashland Exit, 176.  Turn west toward Ashland and follow Main Street to downtown Ashland.  Left or South on Center Street.  The house is in the area of Ashland University and Ashland Theological Seminary.

The fine old woodwork in the entry and living room are the first thing one can notice when entering the house.  This picture was taken from the open staircase and shows just a tiny bit of the entry room plus the bay window in the living room.  The post right in the center is part of the stairway.

This is the bay window at the front of the house.  You can see it also in the picture above.

The kitchen, with hardwood floors, a  work area  and lots of cup-boards.

This is the opposite side of the kitchen, showing workspace and cupboards.  The area behind the butcher block is a hallway to the back stairs.

This is the main bath upstairs.  Twin sinks and mirrors.

The third floor is completely finished into a family get-away room and a bedroom.

Here is the front porch.  It curves around the front  and one side of the house, and evokes thoughts of the days when front-porch sitting was the way to spend a summer evening.

This picture is taken from the foot of the stairs, looking toward the front of the house.  The front door is at the far right.

The dining room has a window set at a slant beside the leaded glass upper window.  At the right out of this picture is a nook with a built-in china cupboard.

The dining room from the living room door showing the nook and the leaded glass window.

If you go out of the kitchen shown left and above left and go to the right, you will see a wonderful butler's pantry.

The other side of the main bath.  That is tile on the walls and a separate shower.

Outside in the large back yard is a deck, a fence around the entire yard, and a two car garage with a shop area.
