Text Box: These are some of the peanut butter jars that Bob collects.  They all have the head of Jumbo the Elephant embossed on them.  The rest of the jar is a "swirl" of lines.  The patent for the swirl design was awarded June 24, 1930.  The metal lids are valuable of course because metal rusts if not cared for, and so a lid that is 60 or 70 years old and has little rust and a painted design that is not worn off is very desirable.

Text Box: JUMBO
Text Box: Many of the jars have catchy sayings on the bottom.  Perhaps a jar would say JUMBO, GOOD FOR THE KIDDIES or TRY JUMBO PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES.  If you look closely at this jar bottom you can see why it is much more valuable than the average jar.

Text Box: Dove Brand Spice Chest
Text Box: Text Box: The Frank Tea and Spice Company was headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio.  They sold Jumbo Peanut Butter, Dove Brand Spices, Frank Laboratories insecticides and several other brand names of spices.  They promoted the brand with toys, advertising premiums, spice chests, recipe books etc. so there is quite a bit for the collector to hunt for even if he has become the owner of all the types and sizes of peanut butter jars.  There is also that rare something that no one has ever heard of until some sharp collector spies the words "Frank Tea and Spice" on the label.

Text Box: This Dove Brand Spice Chest was once placed in a store to hold spices for sale.  Probably used in the 1920's or '30's.  This and the other two we own are great for a table beside a chair or in an entry, but three is too many so this one is for sale.  brdetrow@zoominternet.net  419-289-7504

Text Box: This is a peanut butter jar with a paper label advertising a toy one could get as a premium.  We don't own either the jar or the toy although we have seen both, so we have something to look forward to in the hobby at least
