Effective 8/94

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
Sunday classes will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be dismissed at 10:45 a.m. Monday classes will begin at 6:00 p.m. and be dismissed at 7:30 p.m. Please be sure students are on time. For the safety of the students:

  • parents of students grades k - 4th are to pick up the students in their classrooms after class. Please be prompt.
  • on Sunday all students and parents are to leave via the 2nd side door.
  • on Monday evenings we will have parents supervising the door.

    EMERGENCY CLASS CANCELLATIONS
When it becomes necessary to cancel a Monday class for any emergency, including inclement weather, announcements will be made by KDKA and WBUT radio stations. The teachers will also be notified. Sunday classes are never cancelled.

    ATTENDANCE
Punctual and regular attendance is EXTREMELY important. Students should be in class every day of the CCD school year.

  • A written excuse for every absence will be required.
  • Students must make up absences that total more than three during the course of a CCD semester (Sept. -Dec. and Jan. - May ).
  • The fourth absence will necessitate a meeting with the parents and the program managers.
  • A total of five absences constitutes missing 1/3 of the CCD semester. This becomes a serious issue and puts the student’s candidacy for the celebration of the Sacraments into question.
Remember, it is a Diocesan regulation that to receive the Sacraments of Penance and 1st Eucharist , the child must attend at least two full years of religious education. For Confirmation, the requirement is three years prior to receiving the Sacrament. Please note that the CCD tutoring program is designed to help the student keep up with the rest of the class. It is NOT designed to replace the classroom experience.

    TARDINESS
One of the aims of the St. Christopher’s CCD Process is to help the students develop good habits. Every student should form the habit of being on time. A student is considered late if he/she arrives after 9:30 a.m. on Sunday or after 6:00 p.m. on Monday. After two times tardy in a row the parents will be contacted, to try to find a solution to the problem.

    MAKE UP WORK
If your child misses CCD, the teacher will give him/her the previous week’s work and it will be returned the following week completed.

    REPORT CARDS
Report cards will be given each semester at the beginning of Jan. and at the end of the school year. They are to be signed and returned to the teacher the following week. Parents having any question about their child’s grades should contact the teacher to set up a time for a conference.
Our grading system is as follows:
    O = Outstanding
    S = Satisfactory
    U = Unsatisfactory

    CLASS LEVELS
All students must follow an orderly progression through the CCD process. They should begin in Kindergarten and progress through each grade in order. The grade level in CCD is the same grade level as in school. If a student is held back in school, then he/she should be held back in CCD.

    TOYS
NO TOYS - electronic, stuffed, beaded, or otherwise are to be brought to class. If toys are in the class room the teachers have the right to remove them from the student. Any removed toys will be given back to the parents only.

    TEXTBOOKS
Textbooks are a necessary and costly item. Therefore, students are expected to care for the books and refrain from writing in them. Condition of books will be noted at the beginning and end of each CCD year.

    STUDENT MASSES
In addition to the instruction and class projects, each class, grades one through Youth Group are responsible for planning at least one Mass each year. We ask that you help your child(ren) practice their parts, attend any necessary practices and come to the Mass at least 30 min. early on the day it is schedule. This gives the teacher one last opportunity to rehearse with the students.
Taking part in planning and being a part of the Mass helps give the students a better understanding of what Mass is all about. The Eucharist (Mass) must be the focal point of the faith we are trying to pass on to our children.
Please let your actions support our efforts by attending Mass EVERY week. In order to help the children participate more actively, please help them follow along in the missalettes.

    FUNDING
The CCD program is responsible for bringing in the money needed to meet ALL its own expenses, except Utilities. Our major sources of income are tuition, bake sales held throughout the CCD year, and fund-raisers conducted throughout the year.

    TUITION
Tuition is $15.00 for the first, $12.00 for the second child and $10.00 for the third child. All others are free. NO ONE WILL BE REFUSED FOR LACK OF FUNDS.

    PARENT CONFERENCES
Teachers and the program managers are available to meet with parents and students regarding academic, emotional, or social problems. If parents desire a conference, they should call the CCD office. Arrangements will be made to meet at the earliest possible time.

    CLASSROOM CLEANING
The teachers and students are responsible for keeping their classrooms clean. If a CCD classroom is used by any other group, it is their responsibility to dispose of all trash, clean tables and desks , if necessary, sweep the carpets. Rooms should be left in suitable conditions for the children. To keep cleanup to a minimum, we have adopted a NO SMOKING OR EATING policy for our classrooms and a NO SMOKING policy for the building.

    LOST AND FOUND
A lost and found box is maintained in the CCD office. Students should check with the office immediately if an item has been lost, and if they find anything that does not belong to them, turn it in to the office.

    TELEPHONE USAGE
Office permission is necessary before telephone calls may be made. The phone is to be used for important calls only. Students are not to use office phones unless an emergency exists. Remember, only local calls can be made from the CCD building; any long distance calls must be placed from the Rectory.

    LIBRARY
The purpose of this library is to provide the congregation with religious and spiritual books. We hope to continue to expand and improve our library. To have something for everyone young and old. We hope everyone will show an interest and use the library.

  • The procedure for borrowing books is similar to that of a public library. Just as in every other library, those borrowing the books are responsible for returning the books on time and in good condition.
  • If you have any religious or spiritual books in your home that you would like to donate, we would appreciate them very much. Also keep us in mind if you attend used book sales.

    DISCIPLINE
Teachers are expected to handle their own discipline problems. Where all other methods have failed the program Managers will assist and help the teacher in any way possible. In very extreme cases, the Coordinators should seek the advice of the Pastor before any drastic action is taken.
With this directive in mind, the following offenses shall be recorded on a STUDENT DISCIPLINE REPORT FORM and kept on file in the office. This report is to be turned in the same day as the offense was committed.

THE MAJOR OFFENSES TO BE REPORTED ARE:

  • Physical abuse or injury to another person.
  • abuse of personal or church property.
  • smoking, cheating or use of profane language.
  • arrogance
  • frequent neglect in completing assignments.
  • any other behavioral problems which disrupt the education the safety of themselves or others.
Every effort will be made to secure the cooperation and interest of parents or guardians in serious disciplinary situations. Conferences should be arranged with the parents in the case of a major offenses when the student has failed to properly respond to warnings, counseling and acceptable punishments. In accordance with this directive, the following policy shall be employed.
  • The first time, a discipline note is sent home. It should be signed by the parent and returned.
  • The second time a note is sent, the teacher will call the parents to discuss the problem. Again, the note should be signed by the parent and returned.
  • Upon the third disciplinary note in any CCD year, the parents will be requested to attend a conference where the student, teachers involved, the program managers (and if needed, the pastor) shall be present to discuss the particular problem. At the conclusion of said conference, a report shall be completed be the program managers, signed by all present, and kept on file in the CCD office.
