My wife and I are Word of Life quiz coaches and we have
been involved with quizzing for over thirteen years. This page is to help other quiz teams who
are either just beginning or need help in learning how to prepare for quiz matches. We
will try to keep the quiz questions updated as soon as we have written them. I will be
breaking down the questions into files that cover only one chapter. This will allow me to
update this page as soon as I get a lesson written and not have to wait until a whole
section is completed. Also, I will be posting them using Rich Text Format
(.RTF). This is so people with various word processors will be able to load and
print the questions.
I have decided to add the seminar I taught at the Leader's
Development Conference in September, 1998 as an additional page to my site.
(The Why and How of Quiz Teams) I hope
this "paper" can help you in your quizzing efforts.

Why Have a Quiz Team?
The teens who are on the teams are usually your group's most involved teens. What
they learn as a result of being on a quiz team stays with them into their adult life. I
have had college students tell me that it has helped them in studying, witnessing in
college, and has provided an experience that they will always remember. As a coach, you
also learn right along with the teens.

How Should You Study?
There is no right or wrong way. I suggest that you meet once a week for a minimum
of 1 hour. Begin by first reading through one or two lessons. I usually teach the lessons
or comment as we go through them. Then review paragraph by paragraph and highlight
important information. I use a yellow highlighter for general information and a blue
highlighter for verse references. This allows me to quickly find the information I need
during a match. After reviewing the lesson(s), conduct simulated quiz matches. This
requires you as a leader to have made up quiz questions in advance. If possible, purchase
quiz seats to use in your church. If you cannot afford quiz seats, have a spotter watch
for who jumps first. Use writing questions as a study aid. Review lessons regularly and
have fun. Have refreshments at times during quiz study - take turns bringing in drink or a
snack.

Make Quizzing Fun!
You will have trouble keeping quizzing going each year if the teens are bored or
it is all work. Make it fun for them. Have parties and activities for quiz members only.
We have had overnighters at a cabin in the mountains for our quiz team, Christmas parties,
snacks at practice, special practices where we even played games. Make quizzing special
for them and yourself.

Things to watch for this year
(2002 - 2003) in quizzing!
Although WOL has excellent doctrinal material, they do tend to have
type-os in
them that cause some problems when quizzing. If you find any thing that might cause
some problem in quizzing this year, let me know so I can post it for others to be aware of
also. Some of the things to watch out for this year are:
