| What:
Learn how to improvise solos in various jazz styles on your instrument. (Instruments accepted are: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Mallet Percussion, Keyboard/Piano, Electric Bass, and Guitar.) Who: NO JAZZ EXPERIENCE NEEDED!! Any musician entering 5th through 9th Grade that plays one of the instruments listed above. (Students are placed into sessions by grade level or ability level.) Session 1 Course #SA-401: 8:30am - 10:30pm Musicians Entering 5th Grade Session 2 Course #SA-402: 11:00am - 1:00pm Musicians Entering 6th & 7th Grades Session 3 Course #SA-403: 1:30pm - 3:30pm Musicians Entering 8th & 9th Grades What do you get: In addition to learning how to improvise in various jazz styles, each student will receive: > Jamie Abersold Play along jazz CD and book: Volume 54 "Maiden Voyage"  > Hal Leonard Play along jazz CD and book: Volume 35 "Bluesy Jazz"  > CD containing digital recordings of: Live concert from last day and recordings from through out the camp.  > Sheet music of jazz scales, exercises, and "riffs". Where: Chadds Ford Elementary School Band Room. Chadds Ford Elementary School is located at: 3 Baltimore Pike Chadds Ford, PA 19317 (Just south of the Chadds Ford post office on Route 1.) When: Summer jazz camp is two hours long each day for one week (5 days) in the summer. Fall and spring camps jazz camps are one hour long each evening for 8 Monday evenings. Camp Schedules: Due to limited space, all students are enrolled on a "first come, first serve" basis. Fee: $190 for new students. $160 for returning students that still have their Vol. 54 & Vol. 35 "Bluesy Jazz" books/CDs. Who is Mr. Miller? My name is Kenneth P. Miller and I am the band director at Pocopson Elementary School and Chadds Ford Elementary School in the Unionville Chadds Ford School District. I am a graduate of West Chester University with a B.S. in Music Education. I have been a band director since 1996 and have taught students in grades 4 through 12. In addition to being a band director, I arrange and compose original works of music for concert and marching bands. Questions?
