David's "Courier Classic" Instructions: September 5, 2008 First, this is not a perfect setup. I used Courier Beta 1195, because I found that release useful, despite a few bugs. To use this release requires a few manual steps. Here they are: 1. First install the 1195 exe file. I am assuming that you do not have other versions of Courier installed. That may or not be a problem. From my experience, this is negligible. 2. Now, select the Courier.chm, DBconvert.exe, DBtool.exe, and the TipOfDay.txt files and copy all of them and paste into the Courier program directory, normally C:\program files\Courier Email. You may be prompted for overwriting some of the files. DO NOT change the name of any file, including any change of case. 3. Now, copy the plugins directory and paste it also into the same directory. This directory has two files inside it. 4. Right-click the Courier.chm file and click 'properties'. You may see an 'unblock' button just below the 'advanced' button. Click the 'unblock'. This issue arises because Windows SP2 and beyond put a security block on transfering CHM files. 5. Now, the install should be complete. Courier 1195 has a few bugs and may crash sometimes, but it is a quality email client. It does NOT support SSL or IMAP4 and various other products. For that, consider using Stunnel. A full Stunnel tutorial, courtesy of RockFox, is also within this ZIP file, although it is not needed if you do not need SSL. For Gmail, it is required. That's it. No support is available, but this works for me... :) david
