The contest date is March 10, 2012 at Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.

Each elementary school participant is required to memorize a poem. Each high school contestant is required to memorize a poem and recite a selection of prose. For the poem, the contestant is judged on memorization, pronunciation, and interpretation. For the selection of prose, the contestant is judged on pronunciation, presentation, and interpretation. Each category is scored on a scale of 1 to 10. A contestant's final score is based on the total of individual categories combined.
the day of the contest, each participant will receive a colored badge with a
number on it. The color of the badge will indicate the level. The
number on the badge will correlate to a room and an order for competition.
The judges will not know the name of the student nor their school affiliation. Each contestant will be identified by number only.
