Baskets, Etc.
Welcome basketmakers --advanced, intermediate, beginners,
and basketmaker wanna-be's. This site has been established for
Internet exchange of tips, questions, and general knowledge about
splint, reed and willow basketmaking. We'd love to hear what you
are doing with your baskets: new ideas you'd like to share, tips
on weaving techniques and other basket topics as they arise.
We welcome suggestions from you as to what would be helpful
in your craft. Suggestions may be sent to:

- Editor's Corner
- Noa Harari has created the very first website for Baskets
of Israel. (2/27/06)
Noa writes, "Weaving since 1998 when I spent a year in NJ
and that's what came out of it. I'm a full time job engineer
with 3 kids -- never enough time for baskets. Lately I completed
a project I had in mind - creating a web site for Israel basket
makers. At this time only 2 others have joined, but believe me
there are more of us here in Israel."
- Elizabeth
Zollinger is an artist from Switzerland who lives
on the Island of Inishmore off the west coast of Ireland. Together
with Islanders, they are offering Culture Weeks featuring
authentic Irish culture. In October, along with Vincent McCerean,
they offer a weaving workshop of traditional baskets woven the
way they were centuries ago. The course is combined with some
archaeological walks and history of the island. For more information,
contact Elizabeth from the link above. (2/27/06)
- All of basketry suffered a loss at the passing of Jim
Rutherford of Royalwood, Ltd. in Mansfield, OH. Jim's smiling
face and Nantucket skills will be sorely missed.
- Very sad news for basketmakers and basketry. David
Collins, moderator of Weavers Words, passed away on July 18.
David fought fiercly against adversity for many years and was
at least awarded a peaceful passing. He will be long
rememberd by the hundreds of basket weavers who subscribed to
Weavers Words. Hearts of weavers everywhere go out to his
mother, Norma. (David's
obituary)
- We love our BasCats and Country Seat has taken it one
step further. Have fun working their BasCat
jigsaw puzzle. (11/23/04)
- A great big thank you to Pat Harns. She has sent
instructions for lariat baskets. We've posted her article
on our Lariat Page. (7/15/04)
- Words of wisdom submitted by Paula Harrison
"Don't let your worries get
the best of you. Remember, Moses started out as a basket case."
- Sadly, we have received word of the passing of Grace Kabel
this weekend.. A memorial service will be held at 10:00
a.m. on Friday, March 5 at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14591Haggerty,
Plymouth, MI 48170. Her family feels that if anyone wants
to make a donation in Grace's memory that Grace would like it
to be to St. Kenneth Church. Our sincere condolences to her family
and loved ones. Her significant contributions to basketry
will be missed by all. You can read Grace's obituary in the Plymouth Observer. (2/22/04)

This isn't basketry related, however....I am looking for a
set of four place settings of these Christmas
Waechtersbach dishes. Our family has grown and we
need one more set. Waechtersbach no longer makes
them and have none in their warehouse. Does anyone
have a set they wish to sell? Please contact me
at
