History
The story of Camp Chickasaw

In May of 1960, R.A. Marquardt, a Cleveland native, purchased the 100-acre tract of land now know as Camp Chickasaw.  Frustrated with the way typical Boy Scout camps were run, Marquardt sought to create his own camp for he and his scout troop to use.  Over the years, Marquardt and the scouts of Troop 416 from Garfield Heights, Ohio worked hard to build the perfect camp.  Between the outdoor movies, the go-cart track, and the various canoes, boats, and rafts, there was always lots of fun to be had.  In the 1980s, Marquardt retired from scouting, and opened up the camp to all interested groups for free camping.  Since then, countless youth and their families have enjoyed time at Camp Chickasaw.

In January of 2009, Mr. Marquardt passed away at the age of 89 after a period of declining health.  He is deeply missed by all those who he has influenced over the years.

Fortunately, provisions were made to continue his legacy, and Camp Chickasaw will remain open.
