Mom's "Tour" [ Previous "Tour" Page | Mom's Home | Continue Mom's "Tour" ] Pervasive Developmental Disorder, also known as PDD is the diagnosis given when persons have autistic characteristics or behaviors but they are not considered to be significant enough to be autistic because of IQ or functioning level and due to fluctuations in behaviors and abilities. The diagnosis of PDD means that the person experiences language delays which would prevent a diagnosis of Aspergers' Syndrome; DNA testing shows that any other diagnosis is inappropriate; and so therefore this diagnosis is chosen. This diagnosis is given to individuals who experience the entire "Autism Spectrum"; meaning that they may be mildly autistic in behaviors or characteristics in one minute; and they are borderline moderate/severe autistic another minute. Sometimes the specification "Not Otherwise Specified" or NOS is added in such a situation, depending on the doctor or personel you are working with. The Autism Society of America has further information on PDD. For CD-ROMs with color images that parents can print as flash cards to teach children with Autism/PDD and other learning disabilities and difficulties, check out the Early Learning Site or send them email for more information.
