People with Angelman syndrome typically are very good at understanding what you have to say to them but extreme difficulty with verbal expression. A speech and language evaluation would determine to what extent your loved one is affected.

  • Angelman syndrome is a caused by a deletion of the long arm of chromosome 15 that is received from your mother.
  • A genetic evaluation and chromosome analysis needs to be done if Angelman syndrome is suspected.

How prevalent is Angelman's Syndrome?

  • Estimates state at least 1 in 20,000 to 30,000 live births will result in a baby born with a diagnosis of Angleman's.

  • The Angelman Syndrome Foundation (ASF) is a group for families with loved ones diagnosed with this syndrome as well as professionals.
