(The Union Army, Vol 2) One Hundred and Seventy-ninth Infantry. - Col., Harley H. Sage; Lieut.-Col., Peter Grubb; Maj., Emanuel T. Hooker. This regiment was organized at Camp Chase in Sept., 1864, to serve for one year. It moved to Nashville, Tenn., arriving on Oct. 8, and was placed on duty at that post. It was assigned to the 2nd brigade, 4th division, 20th corps, and was present at the battle of Nashville. The regiment remained on duty at Nash- ville until June 17, 1865, when it was mustered out in accor- dance with orders from the war department. Source: The Union Army, vol. 2
