By Laws


                                                    
  Article I   NAME
   This guild shall be known as the Friendship Quilters of Southern Chester County, hereafter referred to as the Guild.

  Article II  PURPOSE
   Section 1- The purpose of this guild shall be:
	A.  To promote cooperation and exchange of ideas among those persons interested in or engaged in quilting.
	B.  To further the education and skill levels of the members of this Guild.
	C.  To preserve the heritage of quiltmaking and promote quilt related activities. 
	D.  The Guild will provide outreach services for the community.

   Section 2- This Guild is not organized for personal profit. No part of the Guild income shall benefit any member
	      or officer of the Guild.

 Article III  MEMBERSHIP
   Section 1- Membership to the Guild is open to everyone regardless of race, color, creed, sex, or national origin.
   Section 2- The membership year shall be from Sept 1 to August 31. 
   Section 3- The membership dues are $15 per year plus 2 fat quarters.

 Article IV OFFICERS
   Section 1- Any person who is a member in good standing is eligible and expected to become an officer.
   Section 2- The officers of the Guild shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
   Section 3- All officer’s terms shall be for one year.

 Article V DUTIES OF OFFICERS
   Section 1- The president shall: 
	A.  Preside over the Guild meetings.
	B.  Appoint committee chairpersons as needed.
	C.  Maintain the master activity calendar.
	D.  Meet during the summer with other officers to plan the new year’s calendar.
	E.  Appoint replacement for offices that become vacant.
   Section 2- The Vice President shall:
	A.  Perform the duties of the president in his/her absence.
	B.  Maintain an accurate membership roster.
	C.  Meet during the summer with other officers to plan the new year’s calendar.
   Section 3- The Secretary shall:
	A.  Record minutes of Guild meetings.
	B.  Write and distribute the monthly newsletter in a timely fashion.
	C.  Meet during the summer with other officers to plan the new year’s calendar.
   Section 4- The treasurer shall:
	A.  Be in charge of the Guild’s funds.
	B.  Keep an accurate record of all receipts and disbursements.
	C.  Meet during the summer with other officers to plan the new year’s calendar.

 Article VI COMMITTEES
   Section 1- Hospitality Committee- The hospitality committee will send  baskets to  members in good standing when
                        they have been hospitalized overnight. The committee will conduct the correspondence duties of the
                        Guild.
   Section 2- Nomination Committee- The nominating committee will be appointed at the February meeting.
                         The committee will find people who are willing to run for the various offices. 
   Section 3- Historian Committee- The Historian Committee is responsible for documenting all programs, workshops,
                         raffle quilts, and other special events. The committee will maintain the Guild’s photo album.
   Section 4- Activities Committee- This committee will be responsible for all extra activities for the guild. This would 
                         include retreats, carpooling to quilt shows, shopping trips, etc.
   Section 5- Charity Committee- This committee will be responsible for collecting any charity quilts or other items 
                          made by members and giving them to the correct people for distribution. 
   Section 6- Membership Committee- This committee will be responsible for:
		A- welcoming new members
		B- distributing membership packet and providing  aida cloth if needed 
		C- making sure leaves are added to the banner by new  members 
		D- being the contact person through the website.
   Section 7- By-Laws Committee- This committee is responsible for maintaining and updating the by-laws.
 

 Article VII MEETINGS
   Section 1- The Guild shall meet on the fourth Monday of each month September through June.
   Section 2- Meeting is held at the Penn’s Grove School Library in Oxford, Pennsylvania.
   Section 3- Any date or location change will be posted in the newsletter and the yearly calendar.

 Article VIII ELECTION OF OFFICERS
   The election for new officers will take place at the May meeting.

 Article IX AMENDMENTS
   Any proposed changes to the By-Laws can be proposed at a meeting and then voted upon at the next meeting.
