Charity Quilts

Friendship Quilter’s Guild members are strongly encouraged to complete one charity item each year for donation.

Vickie Brown and Frances Reyburn are the chair persons of the Charity Committee.

The easist way to accomplish the above statement would be to do a "Comfort Quilt".
Frances Reyburn is the person to contact about the "Comfort Quilt" charity program.
The "Comfort Quilt" is 12" minimum size and 24" maximum, not necessarily square, on white on white material, and gender nonspecific. That is not for a male or female.
Frances will be glad to provide more information about the quilts.
Jennersville Hospital lost pregnancies patients are the recipients of the "Comfort Quilt".

A.I. DuPont Childrens Hospital is another guild supported charity for quilts. Contact person is Martha Cameron.

Guild memebers only.

Avoid misunderstandings Contact Kathleen Conway for any type of Quilts of Valor, Rita or Wayne for Charty Quilts.

Rita & Wayne Lerch will do long arm quilting for Charity Quilts at No Charge! You make the quilt top, provide sufficent backing *1, and *2 batting- -not "Comfort Quilts".

Kathleen Conway will do longarm quilting on Quilts of Valor (quilts for wounded soldiers) for anyone FREE OF CHARGE. Please provide a top with minimum dimensions 50" X 60" and backing at least 4" more than top on EACH side. Batting will be provided. The topper will need to bind and make a label. For more information about Kathleen's project www.quiltsforsoldiers.com

1. Prepare your backing fabric and batting: measure your top’s length and width and add 8 inches to each measurement to get the necessary size. Your longarmer needs "at least" four more inches (eight inches would be better) on each side of the backing fabric than the top size in order to pin on and have room for any drawing up caused by the quilting.

For example: top is 60" X 60" then backing "minimum" should be 68" X 68".

Rita and Wayne prefer six (6) inches of extra fabric on each side. Why? Scissor and rotary cutting of fabric tends to not have the backing fabric "square". Squaring the fabric using the tarring method can remove a lot of material before the backing fabric is "square".

*2 Bating should be at least 2 inches extra on each side 6 inches is preferred. 60 x 60 inch quilt = 64 x 64 bating. The reason for the extra material needed is the same as above.

Rita, Kathy and Wayne don't do binding.
