The Anhydrous Sulphide of Amonia Blues

Words and music by Marji Hazen:

Back in the early 1960s and for 20 years before that, a clever Texas "Legitimate Businessman" named Billie Sol Estes figured out a way to make some fast money and ended up singing the blues.  No folksinger worth his/her salt in those days would have passed up the chance to paraphrase what we imagined this guy was ... well ... singing once his System was discovered.

You saw hundreds of tanks, boy, where no tanks ever stood.

3.That government fella, they said I did him in.
That gover'ment fella, they said I did him in.
But hey! I say it was suicide, and, buddy, that's a sin.

4.They say they're gonna put me up in that federal jail.
They say they're gonna put me up in that federal jail.
And there ain't enough money in this world to go my bail.

5.I got fine Texas cotton. the best that you ever seen.
I got fine Texas Cotton, best that you ever did see.
But that fine Texas cotton gonna be no good to me.
