Welcome to Ask Ian. Please feel free to explore this web site for a complete overview of services available.
Company ProfileAsk Ian is a home-based business specializing in computer service and repair. If I can fix your computer in your home, I will -- otherwise, I'll take it to my repair facility and work on it until it behaves properly. I'll then return the computer to you. You pay only for the time I work on your computer and the cost of any parts. Pickup and delivery is free within 15 miles of Ashland (see Fees), and all work is guaranteed. Ask Ian also provides a web site design service. I will be glad to design a web site for you or your business -- and I have experience using both raw HTML code and FrontPage.
Customer Comments
"My computer crashed, giving me error after error when I tried to boot it. Ian solved the problems and now it works as well as the first day I bought it." - B. Clay, Ashland "Ian has a way with computers." - C. Payne, Ashland
Ian - a Brief Computer BiographyMy first experience with computers was as a college sophomore in 1974 -- using keypunch cards and Fortran IV. It's been uphill ever since, keeping pace with the technology. In 1983 I was using a Commodore-64; in 1986, an Apple IIe -- which I thought was the cat's pajamas! I bought my first PC in 1992. It was a 486dx33 with a whopping 4 megs of RAM, a huge 130 meg hard drive, and a blazingly fast 2400 bps modem! These older PC systems required that you work at the operating system level, memorizing the commands which allowed you to get the results you needed. This was prior to the release of Windows and its graphic interface. Understanding the computer at the operating system level has helped tremendously with diagnostics. For four years, I operated a computer bulletin board service (Baroque BBS) which eventually boasted two high speed, 24 hour lines, and a user base of over 230. It was not unusual to simply leave the cover off my computer as I was always adding a larger hard drive or more memory, a tape backup and a CD-ROM drive! It was a never-ending computer metamorphosis, and gave me a firm grounding in computer repair and upgrading. Today, I do everything from a Pentium III computer which I built from scratch, using components purchased on eBay. Click here for details. In May, 2001, I graduated from Marshall University with a Master of Science degree in Technology Management. In addition to running Ask Ian, I have, for the past 3+ years, held a full-time position as the Information Technology Specialist at Marshall University's School of Medicine.
