Formation

The American Apprenticeship Round Table was formed in 1943 by training executives of certain metal working industries.  Its initiatives were to foster more effective training techniques and assist in practical solutions of training problems of member companies.  Results through these exchanges, ideas, and round table discussions is proof of this group’s success over the years.

Objective

The principle objective of the AART is to assist its member companies in meeting their requirements for an ample number of technically informed and skilled employees through comprehensive, carefully planned, and effectively managed industrial training programs.

Membership

To be eligible for membership, a company must either have apprenticeship, craft, or technical training programs in active operation for which certificates or diplomas of completion are granted.

The AART is composed of representatives of a number of companies with well-established apprentice, craft, or technical training programs.  These member companies represent the following:  auto industry; engine manufacturing; heavy equipment manufacturing; shipbuilding; steel and aluminum companies; the imaging and photography industry; chemical industries; precision machine tool, die and mold making companies; electric power industry; service industries; and other specialty product manufacturing companies.

Membership of AART is granted to a company, not an individual.  To apply for membership, a company representative must first attend an annual meeting as a guest.  An application for membership must be submitted to the membership chairman.  The membership will then vote on the application at the annual meeting.

Benefits of being a member include sharing ideas, opportunity for networking, problem-solving, benchmarking, surveys, etc.

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the AART is conducted the third week of June at a site of one of the member companies, who serves as host of the meeting.  Each member company is permitted to invite one guest to attend the annual meeting.  Also, potential members may be invited to attend the annual meeting by the membership committee.
