My source for the information on John Ryland Keaton is the Cabell County Heritage book. On page 219 of this book, the story about John Keaton list 13 children born to him and his wife Lucinda Conner as follows:
A writer by the name of John A. Keaton states that three
orphan children came to Cabell county in 1811 from Rockbridge County, Virginia. They were raised by the Chapman family in Milton, WV and their names where George, Ryland, and Mourning Keaton. The story goes on to tell about Ryland Keaton, who is the same person as John Ryland Keaton. Ryland contributed to the building of the Keaton School House and Zoar Church in Milton.
