Arthur-Blake
     Isaac Blake of Greenbier County, VA/WV was born about 1770, the son of John Blake and Ann Newton married Margaret Jourdon, born about 1777, daughter of William J. Jourdan Sr. and Elizabeth Woodson. they settled near Barboursville before 1831. His will recorded in Cabell County 25 Aug 1831 names twelve children, but doesn't name spouse. Daughter Sarah married Thomas Arthur the son of Joel and Nancy Arthur; Margaret married Jeremiah Blake, a distant cousin; Peter married Sarah Davis daughter of Samuel Davis; James no information; Pennell married Nancy Knight; Nancy married Benjamin H. Smith; Clara married William H. Jourdon; Elizabeth married James Newman; Jane married Irvin Lusher; Isaac married Joann King; John Morris married Tilitha Spurlock daughter of Daniel Spurlock and Sarah Amos; and Mary married Christian F. Miller.
     Thomas and Sarah Arthur moved from Greenbrier County, Va. to McArthur Junction, Jackson County OH; and by the winter of 1812-1813 they lived in a three corner lean-to on Barker's Ridge in Cabell Co, VA, where they suffered from the cold. In the spring of 1813 they settled on Big Cabell Creek at the mouth of McComas Branch, the first settlers there. The next year Sarah's sister Margaret and husband, Jeremiah Blake settled upstream from the Arthurs, they being the second settlers on Big Cabell Creek.
     Children of Thomas and Sarah Arthur were: Elizabeth born about 1810-10 Sept. 1865 married William Adams who lived on Big Cabell Creek at the mouth of Rush Hollow; Isaac born Dec. 1812 married Rebecca, then Julia Davis daughter of Pascal and Nancy Davis; James 12 Dec 1813-12 Feb 1895 married Elizabeth Sizer; Pennell married Virginia Davis; John Morris 1819-14 Oct 1903 married Sarah Elizabeth Perry; America born 1825 married Samuel H. Davis; Holly Emily born 1827 married Richard Paul Bexfield; and Thomas Washington born 1833-35 married Julia Ann Hagley daughter of George and Anna Hagley.
     Thomas Arthur married second Elizabeth King daughter of James and Mary King of Lincoln County. One child Lafayette born 1846 married Mahala Patterson daughter of Jacob and Sarah Blake, second Sarah Frost.
     James, Isaac, John M. and Elizabeth all acquired land adjoining from the mouth of McComas Branch to the mouth of Rush Hollow. Descendents of these four still owned and lived on the original land of their ancestors in the 1930's.

Gibson son of Leroy Gibson and Mary Goodall; William died 1935 was married in 1872 to Mary Jane Davis; Isaac born 1857 married Ann Nowlin then Lucy Wray daughter of Isaac Wray and Amanda Blake; Albert (Dick) born 1861 married 25 Aug. 1885 Mary E. Lusher daughter of Johnson and Lucy Lusher; Ann E. 30 Apr 1854-9 Nov 1910 married Jeremiah B. Jordon son of John P. Jordon and Sarah M. Arthur; and Sarah Elizabeth 13 May 1864-21 Nov 1925 married 25 Aug 1885 Lafayette Blake son of Pennell and Nancy Knight Blake.
     I, Rebecca Bryan Blake born 26 Nov 1952 daughter of Joseph Bryan and Lorena Williams descend from Thomas Arthur and Sara Blake. My husband, John Blake born 11 Nov 1950 son of Sidney Blake and Ramona Spurlock descends from Pennell Blake and Nancy Knight. We were married 31 Jan. 1970. We have one son Jonathan Eric born 24 Jan 1971. He married 10 Jan 1988 Genia Carter daughter of Clyde Carter and Brenda Felix and they have two children: Katy Jo and John Ethan.
