Dunkles
     William Henry Dunkle (6 Dec 1860 - Mar 1917) s/o Henry & Mary Catherine (Edens) Dunkle married 10 Jun 1886 in Wayne County Ella Anna "Annie" Stewart (12 Jul 1870 - 31 Mar 1955) d/o Harry Daniel & Martha (Hull) Stewart. Annie's grandparents, William & Eleanor (Walker) Stewart were married in 1819 and settled in what became the Spring Valley area of Wayne County. Martha Hull's parents, Martin & Ann (Morgan) Hull are buried in the Harveytown Cemetery.
     William & Annie chose to live in Cabell County, first settling on Davis Creek then moving their growing family to Booton Creek Road, at Martha. Due to the many descendants that have settled in the area, it is known by many as "Dunkleville". A few years ago their old home was torn down and a great grandson, Michael A. Dunkle s/o Dennis Dunkle built a home almost on the same location. They are buried in Oaklawn Cemetery near Barboursville as are many of their descendants. Many descendants still live on Booton Creek but many have moved to other states.
     Their children: (1) William Romeo "Romie" Dunkle (1887 - 1924) married Myrtle Ellen Davis (1895 - 1976) d/o Victor & Lucinda (Humphrey) Davis, he was a US Army Vet WWI and a farmer; (2) Alma Maud Dunkle (1888 - 1961) married Albert Roy Davis (1888 - 1948) s/o Victor & Lucinda (Humphrey) Davis; (3) Arnold Richard "Dick" Dunkle (1889 - 1973) married Olive Toppings (1896 - 1984) d/o William Medley & Jessie (Hunter) Toppings, he was a farmer on Booton Creek; (4) Elizabeth Catherine Dunkle (1891 - 1972) married Vivian A. Gothard (1888 - 1966) s/o Thomas Jefferson & Mary C. (Alego) Gothard, Vivian worked at the Post Office 30 years and was a US Army Vet WWI; (5) Alberta Mae Dunkle (1892 - 1985) married Ernest Elmer Cremeans (1892 - 1952), he pastored Sunset Chapel and Beulah Ann Baptist Church and worked for the C & O Railroad for 42 years; (6) Lucy Dunkle (1894 - 1980) married Richard Baumgardner (1892 - 1929) s/o William T. & Sarah L. (Fuller) Baumgardner, Richard was a C & O Railroad repairman; (7) Hobart Dunkle (1896 - 1975) married Clarice Blankenship d/o Walter & Julia (Dillon) Blankenship; (8) Marie Dunkle (1900 - 1993) married Carl Henderson Doss (1895 - 1978) s/o Junis & Elizabeth (Dodd) Doss, he was a teacher and furniture repairman; (9) Nina Dunkle (1903 - 1982) married (1) Harley Nicley and after his death married (2) Ward McGinnis also from Cabell County. He owned a business in the east end of Huntington, his son "Pop" McGinnis was a local race car driver. Both Harley and Nina are buried in Tucson, AZ; (10) Leonard Eugene Dunkle (1907 - 1988) married Lennie Esther Browning (1910 Logan Co - 1991) d/o Lloyd Everal & Elia Jane (Bailey) Browning. Leonard retired from Kerr Glass Company but was a farmer at heart and active in the WV Extension & Soil Conservation programs. He also trained border collie dogs and trained owners how to work their dogs. Lennie was active in the Woman's Club holding state offices.
