John Henry Simeon and Rebecca Jane (Dawson) Dillon were married January 1, 1885, at Ironton, Ohio. John, born May 27, 1862, the oldest child of William Henry (1840-1905) and Lucinda Pricy (Powell) (1841-1914) Dillon. His brothers and sisters were: George W., Charles W., William Marshall, Mabel, Annie, Ida Rose, Nettie, and Flora. Jane born April 1, 1863 in Gallia County, Ohio, near Crown City, was the daughter of James C. (1805-ca1867) and Lydia (Thornton Baker) (1828-1869) Dawson. Lydia was James Dawson's 2nd wife, and their other children were Sarah Alice, Louisa, Nancy M., and James W. One child was born to Lydia and her first husband, William Baker, her name was Amanda Baker. Children of James C. Dawson and his first wife, Caroline (Page) Dawson, were Elizabeth A., Martin L., James E. (killed at the Civil War Battle of Perrysville, Kentucky). Frances, and Lewis A. John and Jane's children were: (1 and 2 - twins). Nellie and Nettie, born 1885. Nellie died when ca 3 months old - Nettie married Henry C. Bowen. (3). Minnie E., born 1887, married 1st, Nick McCoy, 2nd, John Henry Weaver. (4). Leslie H., born 1888, married Fannie Chatfield. (5). Clarence C., born 1889, married 1st. Nola Campbell, 2nd. Ethel Oliver Hunter. (6). William Henry, born 1892, lived less than a year. (7). Clara B., born 1895, married Clarence G. Massie. (8). John Lawrence, born 1898, married Nellie Malone. (9). Edward H., born 1900, married Stella Kelley. (10). Albert C., born 1902, unmarried. All the children are deceased except Clara and Lawrence. John and Jane's residences: (1) 1885 - Bob Rucker farm on Greasy Ridge. (2) 1887 - Andis. (3) Ca 1888 - farm on SR 378 - about one mile up Symmes Creek from Willow Wood. (4) 1904 - Lincoln County, West Virginia - 10 mile Creek. In 1907 - 14 mile Creek. John operated a general store and post office, and sawed timber for the Ten Mile Timber Company. He was appointed Postmaster of Cuzzie, West Virginia. April 3, 1907. (5) 1908 - farm located across Symmes Creek, a few miles from Willow Wood. (6) 1911 - farm on Oakridge Road - one mile from SR 141. (7) 1914 - farm on corner of Slabfork and John's Creek Roads, near Sheritts. John died in 1922 and Jane in 1929. Both are buried at Sugar Creek Cemetery. John's pioneer ancestors were Squire and Celia (Ward) Dillon, who came from Franklin County, Virginia, in the mid 1820s and settled at Suiter. Squire's father was Samuel Dillon, a Revolutionary War veteran. His mother was Chloe Farley Dillon. Jane's pioneer ancestors were Martin T. and Milley (Cox) Dawson. They came to Gallia County, settling in Section 36 of Guyan Township, near Saundersville. Martin T.'s parents were Rev. Martin, who did service in the Revolutionary War, and Priscilla (Sorrell) Dawson, of Albemarle County, Virginia. |
