From 1850 through 1880 John's family was the only Pratt family in Wayne County. John & Mary's children: (1) Samuel (a Confederate in Co K 8th VA in Civil War) b 3/14/1842 m Elizabeth Perry; (2) Rachel 1844 - 4/4/1923 m 2/28/1859 Samuel Damron; (3) Alexander 4/1846 - 10/24/1922 m 10/8/1868 Lucinda Ball; (4) Nathaniel 4/1848 m Josephine ?; (5) Elias 11/30/1853 - 1/15/1937 m1 Hester Stephens m2 Sarah Jane (Napier) Vaughan. John Pratt married second Nancy Elzira Watts d/o Elias Watts with the following children: William 1854 m 2/8/1877 Margaret Stephens; Harrison 1855; John 1858; James 1/18/61 m Alafare Napier; Sarah 1863 m J. D. LeMaster; G. W. ca 1865 m 1/29/1892 Celia Curnutte; Mary Elizabeth ca 1868 m Albert Johnson; Pharoah 2/1872 m 11/10/1894 Henrietta Hayton; and Frank m 10/21/1897 Maude Rice. In John's household in 1850 was a Benjamin Pratt, probably a brother. Mary Porter was the d/o Samuel Porter, a soldier in the War of 1812 from Russell Co, VA and a descendant of the Revolutionary War Soldier, Patrick Porter. Elias & Hester (Stephens) Pratt had the following children: (1) Mary Etta 8/14/1877 - 8/21/1868 m1 G. W. Watts and m2 Charles W. Osburn (see previous article); (2) John W. 8/1879 m 12/29/1892 Cora Matthews; (3) Thomas 9/1884; (4) Laura; (5) Carl 8/14/1896 m Lona Davis. Elias later married Sarah Jane (Napier) Vaughan 7/25/1859 - 8/21/1935, widow of Leander Vaughan with a son William Paul Pratt 1/8/1906 - 1/27/1954. To make a complete tabulation of the descendants of John and Elias Pratt would be a tremendous task. |
