Electromagnetic Spectrum

electromagnetic spectrum
The electromagnetic spectrum includes all wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation.   Earth's atmosphere is relatively opaque at most wavelengths.  Visual and radio windows allow light and some radio waves to reach Earth's surface.

  • Nanometer (nm): one billionth of a meter (10^-9m)
  • Angstrom (A): one 10 billionth of a meter (1 angstrom is 10^-10 meters)
  • The wavelength of visible light ranges between 400 nm and 700 nm or between 4000 A and 7000 A
