The mirror of a reflecting telescope forms the image in the middle of the telescope tube, so astronomers have devised various focal arrangements to bring the light to a convenient place for observing.  Observing in a prime focus cage is possible only in the largest telescopes.  Most large telescopes use the Cassegrain focus, but many amateur astronomers use the smaller Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes.
