2008-2009 BRANCH PROGRAMS

Sept. 25, (Thurs.), 7 p.m., The Reserve Building,  3637 Medina Rd., Medina, Lower Level Meeting Room. We will kick off the new season with presenter Diane Regan, AAUW/ Ohio President. Regan will discuss the latest national AAUW publication, Where the Girls Are: The Facts About Gender Equity in Education (2008). The report presents a comprehensive look at girls’ educational achievement during the past 35 years, paying special attention to the relationship between girls’ and boys’ progress. Oct. 23 (Thurs.), 12 noon, AGENT OF CHANGE Awards Program, River Styx Grille, Blue Heron Golf Club, Medina. The fourth biennial awards luncheon will recognize a person or persons who have made positive change to benefit women and/or children in the Greater Medina County area. Keynote speaker will be Matt Wiederhold, Executive Director of the Main Street Medina project. 

Menu choices for the luncheon are: River Styx Caesar Salad with grilled breast of chicken -- $16; with salmon or steak -- $18; Cranberry Chicken Salad -- $17; Soup du Jour and One-Half Sandwich (Turkey Club, Chicken or Tuna Salad) -- $17; Vegetable Lasagna with Side Salad -- $19. Included in price are dessert of sorbet or ice cream, coffee or tea, and gratuity.

2007-2008 Programs

    May 22, (Thurs.), 6:00 p.m. Annual Meeting, Dinner and Program at Good Taste Wine & Food Shop, 985 Boardman Alley, Medina. Dinner menu includes salad, breads, beverage, entree selection and gratuity. Featured speaker: Miles Reed, local filmmaker, naturalist, adventurer with video clips and commentary from last year's visits to the Amazon rain forest and African veld. The 2008 Medina Branch Scholarship winners will be introduced and officers for the coming year will be elected.

JANUARY, 2008

    Jan. 24 (Thurs.), 12:00 noon (social); 12:30 Luncheon and Membership Meeting. Location: Blue Heron Golf Club, 3225 Blue Heron Trace, Medina, off Sharon-Copley Rd. (Rte. 162), just east of River Styx Rd. Follow signs to Banquet/Conference Center. Speaker for the afternoon will be Judge Carla Moore of the 9th District Court of Appeals on "Education: The Pathway to Success." Guests welcome. 

DECEMBER

    Dec. 1 (Sat.), 11:30 a.m. -- Holiday Diversity Potluck Luncheon, at the home of Jill Heck. Members are asked to bring their favorite ethnic/ heritage casserole, salad, side dish, or dessert to share. Special invited guests include our two BEWISE campers from 2007 and their mothers and a Medina resident originally from India. Reservations, please to Marilyn Sigel, DAMARFARM@aol.com .

NOVEMBER

    Nov. 15 (Thurs.) 7 p.m. -- "Getting to Know You" -- program and membership meeting with wine and cheese. 3637 Medina Rd., The Reserve Building, Lower Level Meeting Room. OCTOBER

Oct. 25 (Thurs.), 7 p.m. -- Program and membership meeting, 3637 Medina Rd., Medina, The Reserve Building, Lower Level Meeting Room. "Woodland Indians,"hairpiece1.jpg (50289 bytes) presented by John Burke, Medina County Treasurer and historian of Native American culture. SEPTEMBER

schultz book.jpg (38422 bytes)Sept. 27 (Thurs.), 7 p.m. -- AAUW Presents: "..and His Lovely Wife," An evening with Connie Schultz , Broadway Hall (Medina County Administration Building Auditorium), 144 N. Broadway St., Medina. Pulitzer-prize winning columnist and author Connie Schultz will relate her experiences on the campaign trail with husband, US Senator Sherrod Brown and sign her recently published book, ..and His Lovely Wife: a Memoir from the Woman Beside the Man. Tickets: $15 available from AAUW members in advance and at the door. Proceeds will benefit Medina County Branch AAUW Scholarship Foundation. Public invited and welcome!

AUGUST, 2007

Aug. 18  -- All-member summer pot-luck luncheon and picnic was held at the home of Jill Heck. Jump start for the new AAUW year, with coming attractions and committee sign-up. Emphasis on socializing.
