Body Work
In 1988 the first work started was on the body and basic chassis. The lower end of the car had gotten quite rough over the many years it had sat although had been hidden well. Some of the old existing bodywork may have been savable but I knew better if I wanted the car to last as long as I planned on owning it. The floorboard was not in to bad of shape for a car of its age and how it had been stored over the years. Better than many cars I had looked at.
The image to the left shows the rough shape of the lower couple inches of the car. We decided to replace sheet metal on the lower front quarters, bottoms of rocker panels and the lower quarter ahead of the rear wheels.
Some floorboard patches were adder to add strength to a couple of area for reinforcement mainly. This was due to the car being cut & chopped up a few times by the looks of it when it was a drag car fitting motor to it.
The rear apron was replaced under the trunk lid. We did not have the bumper bracket access holes cut out at the time. In those days (80's) the smooth look was in. I liked the look then. But as time has passed and some many cars these days look so much more modern. We decided to go back to more the resto look.
The image to the right the rough bodywork is smoothing out and the project continued to working on the frame with the body off.
