World Trade Center Volunteers Register Online
ARRL - Sept. 16   A new site created for amateurs to volunteer online. This site is designed for amateurs who wish to volunteer for communications duty. The site was developed by Joe Tomasone, AB2M. The site URL:   Http://wtc.ab2m.net.
Just a note before you rush off and volunteer... you must have a VHF (2-meter) or, preferably, a VHF/UHF (2-meter/70-cm) mobile radio, power supply and cables, and mobile/portable mag-mounted gain antenna.

Pentagon Support
The League notes that much of the effort at the Pentagon has stabilized. Amateurs within a 50 mile radius may wish to post their availability; however, the situation has become such that those of us at greater distances probably will not be needed.
If you are interested in volunteering for ARES support, contact N4NW - ARRL Virgina SEC. Note:   N4NW indicates that you will need a "VHF hand held with CTCSS encode ability, two batteries and an earphone or headset due to the high noise level in the recovery area."

Nat'l ARES Website
I wasn't even aware that this site existed...shame on me!! Well, as you might expect, the site's main focus right now is on communications efforts in New York and D.C.
However, it is updated frequently....The notation when I checked the site indicates that it was updated on 9-13-01. I would imagine that it is being updated almost daily. However, the site does recommend that you check with ARRL for the latest information regarding any communications emergency.

American Red Cross
Although not an amateur radio site, so much effort involving hams in the current emergency is going through the Red Cross that it just makes sense to check its site.
I don't find anything on this site related to amateur radio. I'm checking the Volunteer link, but it is loading very slowly -- probably due to a lot of other folks also accessing the link! Looks like we're probably included with some sort of core services; my best guess:   Contact your local Red Cross Chapter.

Checked out the Salvation Army and
the United Way
Again, these sites are, initially at least, Yahoo!-sponsored, and focus on contributions. Not that this is a problem, just that I've not got to the actual organization pages.
Both are well known for humanitarian service to nation and community; however, as the focus of this site is ham radio, that is the direction these searches has taken.

Checked for a RACES page but without luck.
To be sure, there are a couple of sites which include the RACES acronym; but they typically blend this service with the ARES. Further, I found no central RACES website. Just wanted to round out this review and make sure I don't get mail to the effect that "...you forgot RACES!"
