WELCOME TO THE SWPA MODEL RAILROAD

The n-scale Southwestern Pennsylvania Model Railroad is based on the CSX and the Southwest Pennsylvania Shortline Railroads around my hometown of Connellsville, PA. A n-scale model is 160 times smaller than the prototype, thus, 1 n-scale mile equals 33 feet.

In a 24 hour period about 20 CSX trains of various types (auto, intermodal and mixed freight) pass through Connellsville traveling east and west between points mostly in Illinois, Michigan and Maryland. Amtrak (Capitol Limited) also stops daily.

The Southwest Pennsylvania (SWP) Shortline Railroad serves customers in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties north and south of Connellsville. A SWP crew picks up cars in the Connellsville Yard and delivers them to their customers. They also return empty cars to the Yard. SWP has a similar exchange of cars with Conrail(now Norfolk Southern) at a siding in Radebaugh (near Greensburg), PA.
